Fast approaching the end of another incredible wedding season here in Norfolk, and with just one wedding left to capture, it’s time to start to reflect on some absolutely magical wedding days.
It looks like I’ve neglected my blog since April so it’s definitely time that I knuckled down and shared some of the incredible and unique wedding day stories that I’ve been so privileged to capture for 27 fantastic couples this year.
At the end of every year, I think to myself “wow, how can next year be as good?” and it always is!
So, on this cold grey November day, I’m going to bring some warmth and happiness to my blog by kicking off with a selection of images from a very special wedding day back in what was a record-breaking hot and very sunny June. Melissa and Nathan are 2 of the nicest people you could ever meet and I knew from first meeting Melissa and sister Danielle for a consultation meeting a couple of years ago that this was going to be a hugely fun celebration.
Knowing that I would be working alongside friend and exceptional wedding videographer Tom Brown of Brown’s Films meant that I already had 16th June marked down as a wedding day that I knew I’d absolutely love capturing. And, well, it really didn’t disappoint!
Melissa and Nathan’s day started for me and Tom with Melissa, bridesmaids, family and friends in Hopton. Approaching the house to the sound of laughter and corks popping, I knew immediately what sort of day was ahead; I absolutely love it when couples treat their day predominantly as a celebration and live it ‘in the moment’ from the outset and that is exactly how Melissa and Nathan set about theirs.
Melissa and Nathan married at St Margaret’s Church in Hopton, a highlight for me seeing Page Boys Ocar and Harley grinning at each other as they walked down the aisle and managing a spontaneous fist-pump with Nathan! It’s these little moments that I so love in wedding photography.
After a beautiful ceremony it was off to gorgeous Elms Barn for a wedding reception to remember. Melissa and her mum Pat managed to squeeze in a little surprise for Nathan on arrival at Elms Barn, a greeting by their very dapper and rather handsome pet dog Ralph! As always on wedding days, the time before the meal flew in a blur of drinks, canapes and a few group photographs in the stunning gardens at Elms Barn.
June is unquestionably the best time to enjoy the incomparable rose garden and I’m pretty certain that a bridal party has never looked more stunning than Melissa and her team in amongst those stunning flowers. Just incredible.
As always, amazing food was soon followed by a cracking set of speeches. The look on Nathan’s mum’s face when he declared, quite innocently, that Melissa’s mum was the most amazing woman he’d ever met is priceless! See if you can spot the image. Nathan did quickly correct himself but not before offending Melissa his new wife…..I guess it’s a lose-lose when you head down the ‘most amazing woman’ route in the company of an incredible wife, mother and mother-in-law! There’s a lesson for future grooms!
Being mid-summer we enjoyed a long even of fun and games. Time for some portraits of a gorgeous couple in gorgeous evening light, time for a first dance and a return outside for more fun and games before hitting the dance-floor hard.
The always superb and insanely talented Bill Downs provided the soundtrack to an epic evening party – hopefully the images tell the tale of a packed and steamy dance floor and the perfect way to round off a perfect day that really celebrated of love and happiness between 2 lovely people.
I shouldn’t have favourites but it’s hard as a photographer not to fall in love with days like these. Packed with emotion and fun, lived in the moment and completely unique it will undoubtedly go down as one of my 2018 wedding photography highlights and live long in the memory.
Time to handover to a few images…….
