Saturday 7th April and time for Colm and Kat to become Mr & Mrs at the incredible Hales Hall Barn, unquestionably one of the finest wedding venues in Norfolk.
After getting to know Colm and Kat a little on their pre-wedding shoot on a freezing Beast-from-the-East winter’s day in North Norfolk, I knew this was going to be a hugely fun wedding day to capture. With Colm and Kat sharing a great sense of humour and being so close to their families and friends, it was wonderful spending the morning documenting the build up around Hales Hall and capturing all their interactions. It was actually one of the busier mornings of preparations and absolutely flew past – with gifts being passed in all directions, the children playing and Kat’s grandmother enjoying watching on, it was such a joy to observe and discretely capture.
I’m going to let the small selection of photographs below tell a bit of the story of this wonderful Norfolk wedding day but a few highlights for me were definitely Kat’s nana’s involvement and clear enjoyment of the whole day, Kat’s time with mum Jackie during final preparations and the arrival of an emotional Mike, Kat’s dad, around that same time. Colm’s brothers delivered a speech that will be hard to surpass this year – I get to enjoy a lot of funny speeches but not many cause me to lay the cameras down and join the applause as they did on 7th April. And, the dance floor was a highlight with Kat and her dad taking centre stage for a father-daughter dance like no other. Like Kat and Colm and indeed everyone I was privileged to meet at this wonderful wedding, a dance filled with love and laughter and no shortage of humour. Absolutely perfect and another moment that will live long in my memory. If the first 2 weddings of 2018 are anything to go by, this is going to be yet another wonderful year for me and my cameras.
Before I sign off and leave it to the image, a few special mentions.
As always it was great to be spending the day with the excellent videographer Michael Reid of Capture Media – having worked with Michael before, I knew it would be very straight forward seamlessly fitting in and working together to capture the ebb and flow of a relaxed and mainly candid wedding day. In fact, along with Michael, I have to say that in my view Colm & Kat uncovered a bit of an A-team of Norfolk wedding vendors – with the peerless Emily of Love Moi on Make-up and Tracey Ward on hair, Kat and the ladies were sure to look their very best. Ivy Floral Events did an incredible job as the florists with the decorated barn looking its very best. The evening soundtrack was delivered by the always brilliant Joe Ringer Band – no Joe on this occasion but still a superb first set with a packed dance-floor. And of course, Hales Hall Barn itself – up there with Cheryl and her team at Hautbois Hall the week before, Briony and Nick along with Emily and the De’Ath Hospitality team deliver unparalleled service to everyone who visits Hales Hall. It never ceases to amaze me how apparently effortlessly they take care of everyone’s needs and keep the day running smoothly. I’m back at Hales Hall for a few more weddings this year and I’m so grateful to be able to work in such incredible surroundings with such helpful, kind and friendly people who are also at the top of their game professionally. I can’t wait to return.
And so, to a few images. No incredible evening light for Kat & Colm’s wedding day (but we’d already had that on their engagement shoot) but it didn’t rain either as it had so relentlessly the week before!
