From the moment I met Sophie and mum Ellie I knew this wedding at the stunning Elms Barn was going to be an absolute cracker!
After only a few minutes of chatting to Sophie and Ellie it was clear that they were planning a very informal ‘party’ of a wedding day and from the immediate sense of warmth and fun surrounding both of them it was only ever going to be a real privilege to capture. As wedding consultations go, this was one of the easiest and in fact ended with Sophie speaking to Stuart on the phone and making a booking on the spot – I could not have been happier, I had just taken a booking for a wedding on my own wedding anniversary and knew immediately that the day would be very like my own 17 years previously – a party of epic proportions and a celebration of love and life. I couldn’t wait.
Oh boy, 16th August 2014 really did not disappoint – in fact, I had no idea just how good a day it was going to be!
When you arrive to capture the bridal preparation to find the ladies already partying hard you just know that the tone for the day has been set – I absolutely love a relaxed and fun wedding day with bags of personality and Sophie, Stuart and their friends and family absolutely nailed it from the off – they have all of that in spades, and then some. With the bubbles flowing throughout the morning, the air guitars well-tuned (‘ish!) and Queen et al providing an increasingly awesome backing track to the final preparations, it was almost a shame to move proceedings onto the ceremony…..I needn’t have worried though.
Meeting Stuart and the boys for the first time down at the barn it was clear that Sophie and Stuart are a match made in heaven – the same smiles, the same laid-back and fun-loving personalities and a similarly bonkers bunch of great mates.
I could now go on about their whole day but I won’t – the story is kind of laid out below and I hope that the sense of fun and love that pervaded the whole day is adequately encapsulated in some of these images. I have enjoyed capturing dozens of weddings over the last couple of years but Sophie and Stuart’s has to be one of the highlights for me – I absolutely loved spending the day with them and their amazing friends and family and I could not have wished to spend my own wedding anniversary with a nicer group of people. Their day resonated hugely with me and it really was an absolute privilege to be asked to capture such a truly special occasion.
Before I sign off, a special mention to the excellent Lee Allison who drove the whole way from Cambridge to work with me in capturing Sophie and Stuart’s big day – great company and some great shots too. Cheers Lee.
And now time for some photographs 🙂
